Zenpunk- If you are asking for everyones two cents worth- here is mine, no charge :-) I think that people go back- not to be FULLY active, but to not be shunned & to have some sort of ties left. I know I went back- because my family- I got reinstated to take label off- then never went back. As far as the airplane story- that would shock ANYONE! That would draw 99.9% of people to GOD. Yes, go back to GOD- but not in the Witness organization. Find him without all the BS & GUILT. The witnesses are a cult- and once you get near- it is like a vacuum- they suck you in- and after awhile- you believe it all again. Find god- pray to god- thank him for saving your life. But, realize you left for a reason, you know it is not the ONLY direct line to GOD. Pray for guidance. He will show you. Best wishes-MELISSA

Why do they go back?
by zenpunk ini always hear at least two stories a year about someone i know who's left the "truth" goes back despite the trauma surrounding their departure.
this morning i heard yet another story.
a few years ago and elder's wife in my former uk congregation abruptly left the organization, surprising everyone and getting a big df in the process.

Tamara- That is where the witnesses mess you up- your last sentence- can I still talk to god- YES YES YES YES! He is there for EVERYONE!! Sinners are the ones who need him the most! Who of us is perfect? NOONE! Jesus died for ALL of our sins. We just have to confess them & repent & try to live the best lives WE can- not what an organization tells us- otherwise, it is OUR conscience that stops us, or someone elses? Living in fear of reprocussions from an ORGANIZATION is no good. The ONLY person you need to worry about is GOD- make it right with him, and all will go well. BEST WISHES! MElissa

HI! So sorry to hear about your situation. Everyone has a story- and each one has its own twists. First of all, your dad will face no reprocussions, since you don't live at home- his "status" won't be challenged. Second of all, since you have NO desire to be a witness, but want to not be disfellowshipped, you can lie your a** off & say it was the first time & you're so sorry & repent- and be PRIVATELY reproved- which only means you can't answer. (Like that's a priveledge. Third, you can adopt the baby out to me :-) My husband & I just came back from trying to adopt a month ago- talk about heart ache! ESPECIALLY after ESCAPING from the organization, I want to raise a child, NORMAL, without all the witness bs & guilt & crap. I wish you luck in all you do- and yes, I know how you feel. I was disfellowshipped, got reinstated just to take the label off- so my family COULD talk to me- although having them NOT be able to wasn't all bad.....lol- but now, my mom told me when you get disfellowshipped, its an automatic YEAR of regular meeting attendance to get back in- so I know I could NEVER do that- so if I get out- its forever. Good luck. Keep writing & posting & talking- it really does help. Oh, and if you want to adopt your baby out to a wonderful couple in Iowa- let me know :-)

Straw that broke the Camels Back
by Perfection Seeker inso, whats the straw that broke the camels back in your life?
what was the final last straw that made you say thats it- no more?
i have so many-for 15 years i kept getting that last straw-and trying to ignore it- but i think the last straw was when my dad died- everyone kept (keeps) giving me the line of bs about never seeing him again unless i go to meetings.

CC-RYDER- that is a VERY sad story about your wife & you. Just curious, had you contacted a lawyer- what would be your BIG BANG out? :-) Since I am not DA'ed or DF'ed- and now attending church- I wonder if they find out- what will happen-wouldn't mind suggestions :-) The more I read & post on here- the more bitter I get- so might want to go out with a big bang as well! :-)
SpiderMonkey- do you know how many times I wanted to say NO to starting a meeting with a prayer? EVERYTIME they come- they say that- and inside I always say NO- but never voiced it! A few months ago- I was over at my moms house- the elders were doing a shepherding call on my sister who lives in the same apartment complex as my mom. They saw my car- so came & stopped at my moms. They TRIED to witness to me- and share a few scriptures- I went about what I was doing- then they said- can we say a prayer with you? I looked at my mom- who knew I wasn't happy- she had her BEGGING eyes= PLEASE DONT STIR UP TROUBLE- so they started a prayer- and when they opened their eyes- after a long 3 hour prayer of preaching (could have been like 3 minutes- but you know how time stops) I was out the door. I went & drove away.
My mom has continued to talk to me- but the a couple of weeks ago- my brother- "OH, THE ELDER" stopped to see my mom- and said she was putting nails in my coffin- and told her what her conscience should allow- so she stopped talking to me for a few days- then started again-but is afraid my brother will find out. My god- this woman is 55- and is afraid of getting caught. What a crock. Too bad they can't see it.

Disco Sucks!
by professor indoes anyone remember how the society joined the "disco sucks" movement of the late 70's?
i remember reading in the mags about how disco was created by homos and that it has an "immoral beat" (whatever that means!
) it was also mentioned not to go see "saturday night fever" because someone gets a blowjob in the movie.. in our congregation, we had a special meeting about disco because people would request disco songs at our once-a-month jw skating party at the local skating rink.

Wow- I can't believe people are so shocked about the getting your own ride home! That was one of my more "NORMAL" stories. It was just a for show thing- my dad was a servant- my mom was a bully- she wanted us to "LOOK GOOD" so we needed to answer- didn't matter what you did at home- but in front of the other brothers & sisters- we were to be perfect. It was really lame- cause even the watchtower conductor knew- so if he wasn't "happy with us" that day- he didnt' call on us- or if it was someone that felt bad for us- they'd call on us right away to make sure we got a ride home. Towards the end- I was like- hey- I'd rather ride home with so & so- we'd stop for lunch or pop, or listen to the radio, or at least have normalcy for a few minutes. I just turned the tables on them. Oh, I thiink I bought a car right away so they couldn't use that against me! LOL. Noone else has freaky witness parents like mine were? (ARE)

Windchaser- The "Find your own way home if you don't answer" was only ONE of my stories- how much time do you have? :-) If you raised your hand 100x's, but didnt' get called on- then you were screwed! I'm suprised more people aren't vindicitive against the witnesses. I mean, all we do is say bad things about them- that is it- if any ONE of these things happened to other people, they'd go postal! I have plenty of reason & "right" and I'm sure others do, too. Maybe instead of saying going "POSTAL" we shoudl start a new phrase having to do with being an exwitness :-)

I wasn't born till 1969 (hee hee- nice year) but I can tell you that when I was 14- they built a rollerskating rink in our town. An elder gave my sister & I a ride home from the meeting....(My parents had a rule- if you don't answer at the Watchtower study- you had to find your own way home) and we were talking about the roller rink- I mentioned the lights would be the neatest part- then got the lecture on disco- blah blah blah- and they had a talk on the new roller rink coming to town- and how people could get caught up in the lights...................OK- I am furious head to toe now thinking about that- better stop now.........

Pick a Sin, any Sin.....
by Perfection Seeker inever notice how witnesses seem to have "selective sins"?
last i knew- gluttony was a sin, and to be avoided, yet so many witnesses are overweight!
they just think the end is coming, why be healthy, why lose weight, why work out, blah blah blah.

Ever notice how witnesses seem to have "selective sins"? Last I knew- gluttony was a sin, and to be avoided, yet SO many witnesses are overweight! They just think the end is coming, why be healthy, why lose weight, why work out, blah blah blah. Also, I can't even count the number of times that I've heard witnesses that get more change back, or that someone forgot they owed them money- so they didn't say anything, thinking it was Jehovahs will- helping them out or something. So much of it is personal preferences anyway. My mom always says "Go anywhere in the world- all the witnesses believe as we do, would invite you in"- blah blah blah. But, so much is personal preference as to what is "Law" and just congregational standards. In our hall, they told the brothers how to cut their hair- and they wouldn't be allowed on stage if their hair was too short- too worldy. No jean skirts for sisters. If you lived at home- you needed to be escorted to the bathroom- no matter how old you were! Granted- if you're 23 living at home (DUE TO PIONEERING MIND YOU) Mabye you don't need to go to the bathroom in the "short" (HA) two hour meeting- but regardless- if you got up- your parents would follow you. The young people were NOT allowed to congregate outside the hall- talking & fellowship was for inside, when you went out- you were just supposed to leave. In our hall, everyone competed to have the best talks- had a HUGE clock in front of the speaker to make sure he stayed on time but was VERY distracting as they watched it every 2 minutes. Guess these aren't sins- like my original posting said- In my hall- NOONE made it past age 17- except a very discreet few- in our hall- they totally ran out the young people- EVERYONE left- they really were so hard on us- wanted perfection- so the young people just EXPLODED!! My dad was a servant. NIcest guy you'd ever meet- not wrapped up in the witness BS- was NORMAL guy- they made him a servant- cause they needed him to do the accounts & run the literature counter- but said and I quote "Because you're overweight, you will mostly be a silent servant- doing accounts, etc- limited parts." GIVE ME A BREAK! I think I could write on this website for the next two years & STILL have stuff to write! They dig us so deep in a well- takes YEARS to climb out- and when you do- LOOK OUT! :-) Good luck to EVERYONE on this site. Hope you haven't abandoned GOD- just because of the weird religious cult you were in. God is great- wonderful, and has NOTHING to do with the organization! GOOD luck in the roads ahead! May they be paved & smooth :-)
